JAMES FORD hailed the “hot attacking play” from his York City Knights side as they demolished Workington Town 74-12.
York ran in 13 tries against relegated Workington to cap this year’s final Betfred Championship regular season match with their biggest win of the season.
The Knights now face a trip to third-placed Halifax Panthers in the play-off quarter-finals next weekend on the back of a victory that will have hugely boosted confidence in the York ranks.
“There’s some bits to improve upon but I thought we saw some pretty hot attacking play,” said head coach Ford.
“There were some ruck wins where both hookers got out and asked questions and we fell into shape off the back of it.
“That made us a much more threatening side with the ball.”
York are not known for their attacking prowess, having scored the least amount of points in the top six. The rout over Workington was the first time that they had surpassed 50 this year.
Ford however insisted that such potent offence is "how we want to play every week.”
He said: “There’s a period where you’re bedding in and building pressure, which we’ve done pretty well all season, in terms of corner finishes and defence.
“We just haven’t quite found that fluency with the ball. But we found it today and let’s build on it for next week.”
The Knights boss added: “On the (training) field, we have two attack days and one defence day. We just haven’t quite clicked at times this year. But the positive thing is that we did today.
“There were some really good tries and really good moments.”
