JOHN ASKEY has admitted that York City need to get "one or two out" if they are bring in any further players.

Askey made clear his desire to sign "another couple of players" following York's 1-0 win over Yeovil Town earlier this month.

Despite City starting their first season back in the Vanarama National League in five years with just two defeats from their first seven matches, Askey is keen for new recruits.

He admits though that the process will not be simple or straightforward though.

“To bring players in then I need to get one or two out,” revealed the Minstermen manager.

“We’re not a club who can just go out and get players, so if we are going to bring anybody in, we have to get one or two either out on loan or (on) permanent (deals)."

On which areas he is looking to strengthen, the boss continued: “You’re always just looking to better in whatever position.

"Obviously, we’ve not been scoring enough goals, so you look at that area first.

“If a player becomes available and he’s better than what we’ve got, then obviously you try and get that player.”

With the National League season now well into its second month and clubs having already done plenty of business over the summer, the current climate is a difficult one in which to sign new players.

Askey added: “It’s harder (now), because the majority of players are under contract.

“But there’s always movement, especially with the (Football) League clubs looking to get players out on loan, because obviously their window has closed.

“It’s sometimes easier to get players in from a higher level.”
