A QUARTET of York City Knights Ladies players have been named in France's squad for the Women's World Cup.
York's Anais Fourcroy, Margot Canal, Leila Bessahli and Elisa Akpa have been selected in the 24-player squad, with the latter chosen as vice-captain.
The French contingent joined the Knights last month from Catalans Dragons after a joint training camp between the two clubs.
Bessahli and Akpa have since been key parts in all of the Knights' last three matches, including the 22-14 win at Leeds Rhinos to secure the League Leaders' Shield in the Betfred Women's Super League and the 12-4 BWSL play-off semi-final victory over Wigan Warriors.
The pair are set to feature in the BWSL Grand Final against Leeds on Sunday (3.30pm) at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens.
Canal and Fourcroy's sole appearances came in the 33-10 home win over Wigan last month.
France begin their World Cup campaign against thrice former champions New Zealand on Wednesday, November 2 (5pm) at the LNER Community Stadium. The French will be based in York for the duration of the tournament.
