PICKERING Town have appointed veteran non-league manager Rudy Funk as their new boss.

Pickering have been searching for a manager since parting company with Steve Roberts at the start of the month amid a run of just one win from their first eight Ebac Northern League division one matches of the season.

For the last two matches, Town have been managed on an interim basis by assistant manager Tony Hackworth and Ged Dalton, but Funk now steps into the top job at Mill Lane.

Funk arrives at the Pikes after years of past experience during spells at Clipstone, Teversal, Rainworth Miners Welfare, Scarborough Athletic, AFC Mansfield and Long Eaton United.

The 65-year-old has achieved seven promotions during his managerial career - three at Rainworth, two at AFC Mansfield and one each at Teversal and Scarborough.

Funk was most recently in charge of Clipstone, whom he departed from in March, in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League division one, a tier below Pickering.

The new manager's first match at the helm comes tomorrow afternoon when Town host bottom club Penrith (3pm).

Following relegation from the Pitching In Northern Premier League east last term, Funk will be seeking to turn around Pickering's slow start to the new campaign, which has seen them win just two of their first 10 league matches and concede a division-high 31 goals.

Meanwhile, Tadcaster Albion will be seeking to end a 10-match winless start to their season at second-placed Hebburn Town tomorrow (3pm) in the NPL east.

Tadcaster's latest disappointment came in a 7-0 thrashing at Macclesfield FC in the first qualifying round of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Tuesday night.

A strike from former West Ham United striker Nicky Maynard complemented braces from James Berry, Neil Kengni and Alex Curran.

In the NCEL division one, Selby Town host Campion, who sit second, tomorrow afternoon (3pm).
