PAUL JUBB is into the second round of the Columbus Challenger II after a straight sets win over American Ryan Harrison.

The York-born star edged the tie breaker 8-6 to claim the first set before winning the second 6-4 to prevail in just over 90 minutes.

Seventh seed Jubb will now face the winner of wildcard Cannon Kingsley and qualifier James Trotter in the next stage of the ATP Challenger Tour event.

Jubb, ranked at 206 in the world, was the heavy favourite against world number 530 Ryan Harrison.

And he made a bright start at the Ohio State Varsity Tennis Centre, breaking Harrison's second service game for a 3-1 lead.

That quickly became a 5-3 advantage but Jubb failed to hold out for the set as Harrison broke back and eventually forced a tie break.

Both players had set point, with Jubb eventually doing enough after 14 points.

Jubb again broke Harrison's second service game in the following set and Louisiana man had to see out two break points and a match point to take the set as deep as possible.

Former French Open doubles champion Harrison earned two breaks points in the 10th game could not topple Jubb, who won the second set 6-4.

Jubb will be aiming to add a second Challenger Tour title to his CV this week, having won the Santa Cruz Challenger II in Bolivia back in March, beating Peru's Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets in the final.

Elsewhere in the Columbus Challenger II, Jubb's fellow Brit Daniel Cox suffered a first-round exit to Australia's Aleksandar Vukic, the number four seed.

Nation-mates Charles Broom and Aidan McHugh are in action today.

Broom faces top seed Jordan Thompson (12.30am) while McHugh will be seeking to overcome sixth seed Dominik Koepfer (3pm).
