YORK City Ladies remain without a away win in the FA Women's National League division one north after a 3-2 defeat at Middlesbrough.
York twice rallied from a goal behind to level matters against Middlesbrough but newly-promoted City fell short for the third consecutive occasion on the road, after a 1-1 draw with Norton & Stockton Ancients and a 4-2 defeat at Hull City.
The result leaves City sitting seventh in the table, having taken seven points from their first five matches, a commendable tally in their first season at fourth-tier level following promotion from the North East Regional League premier division last term.
However Steph Turnbull's side will be have left the North East ruing a missed chance at a valuable point on the road.
Middlesbrough went ahead on the half-hour mark after Emma Foster worked some room in the penalty area and nodded in a Francesca Ward corner.
York needed just two minutes to hit back as Teagan Sorokan intercepted in the Boro half before lobbing the home goalkeeper, who had strayed off her line.
The scores remained level until the break, with the home side re-establishing their lead five minutes into the second half.
Although there was a suspicion of handball in the build-up, Armani Maxwell rifled the ball into the bottom corner.
City again responded quickly, equalising for a second time seven minutes later through Felicity Jones, who deftly finished past the onrushing goalkeeper.
Middlesbrough found a third and final goal to earn the points however, Brooke Newton's cross-turned-shot cruelly beating keeper Rebecca Sidwell.
York begin their FA Women's National League Cup campaign against Leeds United at York St John University's Sports Park on Sunday (2pm).
