TADCASTER Albion have sacked manager John Deacey following a winless 11-match run at the start of the season.

Deacey was appointed as Tadcaster manager in October and led the side to 14th in the Pitching In Northern Premier League east last season after a difficult start to the campaign, which saw Albion spend several months close to the relegation zone.

The Brewers have been unable to kick on since then, having failed to win any of their first 11 matches in all competitions this season, leaving them 18th in the NPL east, in one of the division's two relegation play-off spots.

Confirming the news of Deacey's departure, a Tadcaster statement read: "Tadcaster Albion have announced that following the club’s poor start to the season and with the team languishing in the relegation zone, they have regrettably terminated the contract with manager John Deacey.

"We wish to place on record our appreciation of all John’s achievements last season when, having been appointed in October 2021 with the club bottom of the Northern Premier (League) east, he managed to secure our place in the league with just three games left.

"A further announcement will be issued as soon as a new managerial appointment has been made."

Tadcaster chairman Andy Charlesworth said on social media: "I would like to thank John for everything he has done for the club, especially last season in steadying the team and taking them forward which kept the club safe."

Tadcaster will be seeking a first win of the 2022/23 campaign when they host point-less bottom club Grimsby Borough on Saturday (3pm).
