YORK City Knights have retained half-back Brendan O'Hagan on a two-year deal which runs until the end of the 2024 season.
O'Hagan joined York from NRL club Wests Tigers last year and after an injury-hit 2021, in which he was restricted to just six Betfred Championship appearances, the Australian has enjoyed a much more successful 2022 season.
The 23-year-old has featured 19 times this season, scoring nine tries, as the Knights secured a return to the Championship play-offs.
York head coach James Ford said: “The retention of Brendan is a significant move for us as a club.
“I think he has had a really good season and has delivered some outstanding performances at times.
“I do feel that, on the back of a full pre-season, a fit Brendan O’Hagan would be a boost for any team in the Championship and I’m really looking forward to seeing him have his best season for the club next year."
O'Hagan said: “I’m stoked to be staying. I’m really excited for the next few years and we’re building something big here.
“I think after a full pre-season, my body will be firing and that’s when I’ll really hit my straps."
The deal to keep O'Hagan was supported by the club's Squad Builder Fund and has the option of a further year for 2025.
O'Hagan is York's 14th confirmed squad member for 2023, alongside Matty Marsh, Joe Brown, James Glover, Jacob Ogden, Will Jubb, Chris Clarkson, Pauli Pauli, Jordan Thompson, Myles Harrison, AJ Towse, Brad Ward, Olly Butterworth and Ata Hingano.
