YORK City Knights centre Jacob Ogden has earned a call-up to the Jamaica squad for next month’s World Cup.
Ogden joined York from London Broncos last year and made 13 appearances during an injury-disrupted debut season, as the Knights secured a return to the Betfred Championship play-offs.
The 24-year-old’s performances have seen him secure a spot in the Reggae Warriors’ squad for the sport’s showpiece event, which kicks off when England host Samoa at Newcastle’s St James’ Park on Saturday, October 15 (2.30pm).
Ogden will be hoping to add to his three caps won during Jamaica’s maiden World Cup appearance, which sees them pitted in Group ‘C’ alongside 2008 world champions New Zealand, 2017 quarter-finalists Lebanon and knockout-stage hopefuls Ireland.
Jamaica face Ireland at Headingley Stadium on Sunday, October 16 (5pm) before travelling to Hull’s MKM Stadium on Saturday, October 22 (7.30pm) to face New Zealand.
Their group stage matches end with a clash against Lebanon at the Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, October 30 (12pm).
Before that, Ogden and his international team-mates head to Derwent Park to face Cumbria, a representative side made up of the best talent from the region and those playing for the area’s top three clubs, Barrow Raiders, Whitehaven and Workington Town.
