YORK City will travel to Bury AFC in the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup following the phoenix club's 2-0 victory over Clitheroe on Wednesday night.

A Ben Wharton penalty and a Lewis Gilboy strike either side of half time secured Bury's progression during the third qualifying round replay at Neuven Stadium.

The tie between Bury and York is set to take place on Saturday, October 15 at 3pm, although this may change if the match is chosen for broadcast coverage through the BBC.

The clash will see the two clubs take on one another for the first time following AFC's establishment in December 2019.

That following Bury FC being expelled from the Football League amid longstanding financial difficulties.

Bury AFC knocked Hallam, Widnes (8), North Shields (8) and Lancaster City (7) out of the FA Cup before toppling Clitheroe, with all but Hallam ranked higher than the Shakers in the pyramid.

The Greater Manchester club compete in the North West Counties League premier division, where they sit ninth after nine league matches, 17 points behind leaders Vauxhall Motors with four games in hand.

As one of only three ninth-tier sides left in the FA Cup, Bury are the lowest-ranked club remaining in the competition.

The fourth qualifying round tie also sees John Askey oversee his first FA Cup match as manager of York.

City were beaten 1-0 at home against Buxton in the competition's first round last season, under former boss Steve Watson, with Askey taking charge, then on an interim basis, just eight days later.

Meanwhile, York's North Riding Senior Cup second round tie at Whitby Town has had a confirmed date of Wednesday, October 26 (7.45pm) at the Turnbull Ground.

The Minstermen are expected to field a youth side, given the club have a Vanarama National League match at home to Chesterfield on Tuesday, October 25 (7.45pm).
