SIX players from York City Knights and York City Knights Ladies have been named in Rugby League World magazine’s team of the month for September.
York men’s pair Matty Marsh and Chris Clarkson have been named in the publication’s Betfred Championship 13, having featured in the wins over Newcastle Thunder (24-18), Workington Town (74-12) and Halifax Panthers (26-24) last month.
The latter victory saw the sixth-placed Knights upset the odds to defeat third-finishing Halifax at The Shay in the play-off quarter-finals, securing the club’s first ever Championship play-off win.
The duo also featured in the 70-10 semi-final defeat to eventual promotion winners Leigh Centurions, with Marsh crossing for a try at the Leigh Sports Village from a shift play down the left flank.
Clarkson scored in the thrashing of Workington, grounding from a scrum set-play, and played a key role out of position at half-back against Halifax following a first-half injury to number seven Jamie Ellis.
Meanwhile, the Ladies have four players in the magazine’s Betfred Women’s Super League team of the month in Tara Stanley, Olivia Wood, Sinead Peach and Hollie Dodd.
The quartet started in September’s 12-4 victory over Wigan Warriors in the play-off semi-finals and the 12-4 defeat to Leeds Rhinos in the Grand Final.
The former success saw York win a BWSL play-off semi-final tie for the first time and reach a maiden Grand Final.
Peach scored York’s only try against Leeds at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens, scooting out of dummy-half from 30 metres before beating the last-ditch goal-line defence.
