THE York City Supporters’ Trust have received approaches from six interested parties over the club's takeover and have until April 4 to complete the process after handing an acceptance notice to chairman Glen Henderson.

Henderson and the Trust took charge of York in July, with the former holding a 51 per cent stake and the latter possessing the remaining 49 per cent.

Amid the backlash to the shock sacking of manager John Askey in November, Henderson offered his majority shareholding back to the Trust last month.

Just over a week later, the chairman claimed to have withdrawn this offer, although the Trust insisted that he had “no provision” to do so.

The Trust board voted unanimously in favour of providing Henderson with an acceptance notice on Wednesday night.

In accordance with the club’s articles of association, the Trust now have 90 days to “pay the consideration for the shares”.

The deadline for the completion of the transaction is Tuesday, April 4.

The Trust say they have received approaches from half-a-dozen interested parties and are "currently working with each of them to complete a robust process that will ultimately lead to a vote of our members at an SGM (special general meeting)."

The fans group's statement added: “We will issue a further statement next week to outline the process and associated timeline.

“In the meantime, we encourage all supporters to attend the Maidstone (United) fixture this Saturday (3pm at the LNER Community Stadium) to help the players achieve a much-needed three points.”

The Trust’s decision to hand the acceptable notice to Henderson will prove popular among City fans, who have turned against the chairman, primarily following the shock removal of Askey.

In a poll run by The Press with almost 950 responses, just four per cent backed the Trust turning down Henderson’s offer of his shares when he first made the proposal in December.

Henderson declined to comment when approached through York City by The Press.
