YORK-RAISED Charlie Cresswell looks likely to be recalled from Millwall by Leeds United.
The 20-year-old son of former York City striker and ex-Minstermen first team coach Richard Cresswell has been on loan at The Den since the start of the season, but has seen a lack of first-team action recently.
United want the young centre-back to have more game time and other Championship clubs are reportedly interested in granting their wishes.
England Under-21 international Cresswell has scored four goals for the Lions but has not featured in their Championship side since a 3-0 defeat at Sunderland on Saturday, December 3.
Cresswell is contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2025 but has found himself down in manager Jesse Marsch’s pecking order at Elland Road.
Other young players on the Leeds roster have also been rumoured to be of interest elsewhere with a loan move in mind, the most high-profile being striker Joe Gelhardt, who has been linked with a return to his former club Wigan Athletic.
The striker may well go back to the Lancashire club for the rest of the season if Leeds were to secure the signing of Georginio Rutter from German club Hoffenheim.
Rutter, 20, a French Under-21 international is commanding a £30m fee, which would make him the Whites record signing, surpassing the £27m paid for Rodrigo in August 2020.
Two other Leeds players who may also secure loan moves are Norway Under-21 international defender Leo Hjelde, who is attracting interest from Rotherham United and 18-year-old Max Dean, who has been linked with a loan switch to Sky Bet League two side Harrogate Town.
Northallerton-born midfielder Alfie McCalmont, who has four Northern Ireland caps, has already joined Carlisle United for the rest of the season.
The former Thirsk School pupil is yet to play for Leeds but has had previous loan spells at Morecambe and Oldham Athletic.
