FORMER York City manager John Askey is currently the bookies 2/1 favourite to replace David Webb as the Minstermen’s manager.

Askey, who the left the club as recently as December, is the favourite to take the helm at the LNER Community Stadium after leaving the club amid a sour interaction with majority chairman Glen Henderson.

But after being spotted watching York’s 2-0 defeat to Oldham Athletic recently, and being a fan-favourite, Askey is being backed to return to his post according to BetVictor.

It comes after Webb was sacked after just ten matches in charge, where he mustered just one league victory.

Askey is a favoured option for the majority of supporters after guiding York to promotion to the Vanarama National League last season, when defeating Boston United 2-0 in the Vanarama National League North play-off final thanks to goals from Maziar Kouhyar and Lenell John-Lewis.

Michael Morton is currently in conversation with the club to be in charge for Saturday’s Isuzu FA Trophy fifth round match against Southend United.

The club are continuing to work on installing a full-time manager.
