YORK City interim manager Michael Morton believes that the draw was a fair result tonight, after the Minstermen held Boreham Wood to a 1-1 draw.

Adam Crookes opened the scoring on the 39th minute, before George Broadbent levelled the scores on the brink of half-time.

These two sides have now faced each other four times in their history, with each match finishing 1-1.

But after a close-knit match, York will be happy to have avoided a sixth consecutive Vanarama National League match.

“It wasn’t great for the fans that one in terms of watching it, but to be fair that’s what we knew would happen." Morton admitted.

"But to be fair we knew that was going to happen, they’ve been around the players for the last couple of years or so, not lost in the league this year and they continuously try and put you under pressure.

"I thought we stood up to it, we caused them a few problems as well trying to put pressure on them.

"I don’t think there was much between the game and probably a draw was probably the right decision.

“The biggest thing for us was conceding a goal just before half-time like that, we could have crumbled.

"But we talked about character and we had to weather the storm after and I thought the boys were brilliant.

“You could probably see us on the sidelines as well just telling everyone to concentrate and relax, we talked about if you make two mistakes after each other it probably ends up in a chance.

"We’ve made three or four in a row there, we haven’t cleared the ball and we haven’t doubled up on the side and followed the runner so you are going to get punished which is just a disappointment.

"For us it was just about going in and coming out confident, let’s talk about the positives and talk about the negatives because there was a lot going on and we could have crumbled.

"I thought they came out and showed their character.

“We’ve talked about how we’ve struggled with set-plays and everything but I thought they stood up to it, I thought they were really aggressive and if you look at us over the weeks now, we have got better at that.

"We’ve been doing a lot of work on it and credit to the lads as well because we’ve been working on it on cold days as well.

"But I thought we stood up to it, got first contact, second contact and that’s really important."
