Selby Town were left to rue on a poor evening against a makeshift Retford FC at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium, as the Robins fell to a 3-1 defeat on home soil.
It was a second 3-1 defeat to Retford of the season for Selby, who have now scored 13 goals in their last four matches.
As regards team news, four changes to starting eleven were named following Town's previous league fixture at home to Athersley Recreation.
An early stoppage saw keeper Adam Walter forced off with an injury after a routine collection saw him land awkwardly that ultimately sees his season come to an abrupt end.
Iwan Heeley would replace the injured keeper between the sticks as Alex Clark slotted in at left back.
Retford were denied midway through the half after a sublime goal line clearance from young McGrath.
With little action in the first half, the break was fast approaching and the opening goal of the night eventually came seconds from the break as Town were finally undone following earlier heroics.
Selby's inspired defending continued for the opening moments of the second forty-five until inevitably Retford doubled their lead shortly before the hour.
However, the Robins issued a response the other side of the hour after Liam Flanagan converted a penalty for his twenty-second of the season.
The tie began to descend at a consistent pace due Selby becoming more frustrated with the officiating as has been witnessed many times previous.
Town had shouts for penalty turned down with the tie wearing on and with the attacking endeavours a sense of another goal was imminent. Unfortunately that goal would come against Town as Cal Brook was sent of after a last man challenge. The subsequent penalty was converted sealing the game for Retford.
