YORK City Supporters’ Trust chairman Mike Brown is optimistic that the club’s takeover will still be completed - despite having missed last night’s deadline to find a prospective buyer.

The Supporters’ Trust was tasked with finding a buyer for Glen Henderson’s 51 per cent stake in the club before April 4, but instead revealed last Friday that it was ‘heartbroken’ that a bid from a consortium had fallen through “at the eleventh hour”.

Subsequently, the trust, which announced that it had paid the wages of players and staff to the tune of £50,000 last month, has asked Henderson for a contract extension, and remains hopeful that a buyer can be found.

Brown said he understood Henderson had met with interested parties today, though admitted that he did “not hear it directly” from the outgoing chairman himself.

“I understand that is the case,” Brown said to The Press.

“All I’ve heard from [Henderson] is that he’s got a couple of options with the timing, and processes going through.

“It’s over to him, but he’s asked us to facilitate that by providing some papers that we’ve shared with other interested parties.

“We sent them over to him this morning.

“We’re not going to make it difficult for Glen to exit - I want to make it as easy for him as possible and so do my Board colleagues.

“Everybody’s agreed, and I think even Glen, that that’s in the best interest.”
