YORK Valkyrie centre Tamzin Renouf hopes that her side can kick on for the rest of the Betfred Women’s Super League season after Sunday’s triumph over St Helens.
That 26-6 victory marked the Valkyrie’s second in as many outings this month, after they laid down their marker for the title with a convincing 34-12 victory against Leeds Rhinos in front of a record crowd at Headingley last weekend.
Renouf sensationally notched her second and third tries of the season on Sunday after skipping through the St Helens defence, and admits that she hopes that her side can maintain their momentum over the coming weeks.
“It was really good,” she enthused. “I think that we got into the grind after the first 20 [minutes] and then got into the game really.
“This year, it’s really about us keeping it in the grind, getting in a cycle and not forcing stuff, and I thought that we did that really well.
“It’s great to start off the season with two games against two of the best teams in our league and obviously it stands us in good stead, but it’s very early on.
“I just think that we need to keep kicking on now, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
The Valkyrie will however now be without the services of Hollie-Mae Dodd, who has scored in both their matches thus far, following her move to NRLW outfit Canberra Raiders, but Renouf is confident that she can showcase her talents in Australia.
“She is obviously a very good mate of mine and it’s hard, but we all just wish her the best of luck,” she said.
“It is going to be sad without her, but we’re just going to do a job for her here and she’s going to do a job for us out there.”
The next task at hand for the Valkyrie is a trip to Cumbrians Barrow in the Betfred Challenge Cup, with their focus remaining firmly on taking it one game at a time.
“It’s a long trip [to Barrow], but we just need to keep doing what we’re doing and think about ourselves,” she added.
“That’s the main thing that we’re doing this year – focusing on us and not necessarily the opposition.”
“We’re getting into that rhythm of just playing great, great rugby league, so I think that’s what we’re going to do next week.”
