York boxer Jack Marshall is confident that his decisive recent victory in his first professional match against Mexican boxer Hector Lozano will confirm that he is a tough and talented young fighter with a bright future including eventual championship title fights.
Twenty-year-old super featherweight Marshall began boxing aged fourteen at Henry’s Gym in York and continues to be managed and coached by owner Henry Wharton who organised the event in Leeds jointly with Denzil Browne and promoter Dennis Hobson.
Marshall enjoyed a successful amateur record including national titles and a Yorkshire senior elite belt.
"I loved the amateurs and especially competing away including trips abroad",explained Marshall, "but the time had come to win longer harder fights against experienced opponents".
It’s early days for Marshall who works as a joiner and builder and has a long way from earning his living as a boxer.
"But he’s ambitious and his positive attitude and willingness to develop new skills make Jack well suited to being a pro boxer" Wharton enthused.
"He’s relentless and unpredictable and proved that he can counter a punch and launch a damaging combination. We’re expecting great things from Jack."
In his spare time Marshall enjoys fishing and supporting his local rugby club.
"To always do my best to put on an entertaining and electrifying performance aiming to get York boxing better known. I aim to fulfil my potential and be the best boxer possible".
Super welterweight Harry Kelly also made his successful debut on the Leeds show beating Lancashire’s Harley Marginson.
"He was a tough opponent." Kelly admitted.
"I learnt more in that match than in five amateur bouts. Now I can’t wait to get back out very quickly to build up a record of wins."
Winning his second professional fight against Middlesbrough’s CJ Wood was middleweight Nathan Shepherd.
"I was on last and my supporters were the most vocal.
"Proud to have entertained them nearer to home with an explosive performance as so many travelled to Manchester for my debut match in April.
"It was a tremendous evening and now I’m keen to have my third bout soon."
Also winning matches were Mitchell Barton, George Davey, John Harker and Rafal Benka all managed by Wharton.
