YORK City have confirmed that full-back Alex Whittle has departed the club my mutual consent.

Whittle, who joined the club at the beginning of last season, made 34 appearances for the Minstermen throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

The 30-year-old defender was in his second spell in North Yorkshire after an initial stint with the club from 2016 to 2018, but departed to play for the likes of Chesterfield, Forest Green Rovers and Boston United.

Whittle had one year remaining on his York contract, but has mutually terminated to pursue an opportunity elsewhere.

Whittle also becomes the first player to depart the club since the Uggla family completed their takeover of the club, acquiring a majority shareholding and purchasing Glen Henderson's shares.

It comes on the same day that City announced the addition of Zanda Siziba, with the 19-year-old winger joining the club from Vanarama National League South side Yeovil Town.
