A RECORD crowd attended York Valkyrie's Betfred Women's Super League regular season closer against Huddersfield Giants on Sunday, the club have announced.
Some 1,213 spectators attended the clash at the LNER Community Stadium, a figure made even more impressive by the York Knights' match at Bradford Bulls taking place at the same time.
It proved to be an outstanding afternoon for the Valkyrie in front of their home fans in which they were presented with the League Leaders' Shield as part of a historic double-header with the club's newly-formed Under 19s.
Danny Holmes' side overturned a 10-point deficit against the much-fancied Wigan Warriors to claim a 22-20 victory to kick off the day's celebrations, before the Valkyrie ran riot in a 60-4 thrashing of Huddersfield Giants.

It took just two minutes for winger Georgie Hetherington to open the scoring against the league's last-placed side and she had her double on the 15-minute mark after collecting Tara Jane Stanley's pass.
Those tries came either side of a Jas Bell score, with Sade Rihari, Carrie Roberts and Rhiannion Marshall also finding the whitewash before the interval.
Though Huddersfield hit back after the break, normal service soon resumed for the Valkyrie, Roberts completing her hat-trick and Rihari her brace, alongside further tries from Stanley and Savannah Andrade to see York finish the season unbeaten.
The Valkyrie will now host Wigan in their Play-off Semi Final on September 23 (3:30pm), with the winner advancing to the Grand Final, which will be held at the LNER Community Stadium on October 8 (3pm).
Semi Final tickets are priced at £5 for both Adults and Concessions, whilst Under 16s go free, and can be purchased online, over the phone and in person at the Stadium Ticket Office.
