TADCASTER Albion’s match with Hallam was abandoned after 65 minutes with the Brewers’ pitch falling victim to the adverse weather
Everyone was eager for the game to be played and the referee decided that unless the skies opened again, the match would go ahead but if at any time the pitch became dangerous, he would abandon it immediately.
Halam were the visitors, sitting just two places above Mick O’Connell’s side with both teams eager to pull closer toward the play-off picture.
Daniel Pudin picked up a loose ball in the third minute but his 30-yard strike was well wide.
Hallam’s Basil Zottos went close as play resumed whilst Ruthuen’s dangerous low shot was saved by the foot of Wilton.
With 15 minutes remaining of the half, Hallam took the lead in debatable circumstances; Norman was fouled on a run down the left flank, the referee looked about to blow but then changed his mind, allowing the visitors to quickly break with Zottos finding substitute Danny Buttle who thundered the ball into the top corner.
Norman almost equalised on the end of an inch perfect through ball from Crosby but shot stopper Hugo Warhurst got a foot to it. Tweed’s corner was met by Qualter but his header hit the post.
On the stroke of half-time Crosby was through with just Warhurst to beat – it was a stupendous shot from the Albion striker but quite brilliantly saved by the keeper.
Just before the interval and indeed throughout it, the rain returned with a vengeance.
At which point on 65 minutes, referee Jallow brought proceedings to an end and abandoned the match due to conditions having become unacceptably dangerous to the players, which received no complaints.
The match will all have to be replayed again before the league finishes on the April 6, notwithstanding that the teams play again at Hallam on Tuesday, March 19.
Tadcaster are back in action when hosting Albion Sports on Saturday, March 16 (3pm).
