AFTER a gruelling season, York-based Nestle Rowntrees Rugby Union Football Club has secured its place against Doncaster's Thornensians RUFC in the Yorkshire 4 league play-offs.
The match is set to be held on Saturday, April 6 at Thorne’ Rugby Club with Nestle Rowntree set to cap off an enjoyable season.
Ryan Roodt, Chairman of Nestle Rowntrees RUFC commented: “I am beyond proud of what the boys have achieved this season, both players and the coaches have worked tirelessly to reach the position of being in the play-offs.
"As of a couple of weeks ago we weren't even sure if the play-offs would happen as the wet weather has seen clubs across the league struggle to play their planned fixtures - with only a couple of weekends left in the season it's been right down to the wire to finding out if we'd made it or not, thankfully it was the former.
"We hope to see as many of our ‘Trees’ supporters to come down to Thorn and cheer on the team next weekend.”
In addition to their success in the league, Nestle Rowntree has also reached the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Vase, which will be a local derby match against York RI. The date is still to be decided for this match.
Roodt continued: “I am extremely passionate in supporting grassroots rugby.
"Not only does it help support our local community but there's also a huge aspect of the role it does to support peoples’ mental health.
"We hope our success this season will continue to attract new players of all abilities.”
