TADCASTER Albion extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches with a narrow 3-2 victory over relegated Maltby Main.

Goals from Olly Norman, Jordan Hines and a first Tadcaster strike for Mason Wilson saw the Brewers secure the three points over Maltby Main, who were relegated as a result, despite strikes from Marc Newsham and Oliver Currie.

It was a vastly different team for Maltby, trying everything to avoid relegation, and starting on the front foot clearing the bar in the opening minute.

Olly Norman was then through with just the goalkeeper to beat, but Lewis Hood was first to the ball.

On the quarter hour Josh Hardcastle put a defence-splitting pass across to Jordan Hines in the area, but the striker failed to get a shot away.

It was fairly open play but Maltby looked the more dangerous, McQuillan having the best chance but heading wide on 31 minutes.

Nevertheless, as the Brewers forced themselves more into the game, Norman had a chance only for the goalkeeper to save well whilst a free kick taken by Junayd Cassius-Gill saw Hood produce a brilliant low stop at the far corner.

A good move involving both Hines and Cassius Gill again ended with a wide shot, whilst just before the whistle Osborne’s effort curled away from target.

Newsham was adjudged offside as Maltby had one final breakaway before the interval.

Goalless at half-time was about right, but Albion certainly realised that their opponents had the ability to cause an upset.

Five minutes after the restart Tadcaster took the lead; Norman battled hard to rob Spooner near the byline, and then took the ball around Ward before his shot fell to Hines waiting on the six-yard line, a simple but controlled tap in.

Maltby came straight back with Spooner volleying a cross from close range just wide and then on 57 minutes hitting the far post although the flag was up. Osborne curled a shot over on the hour mark.

On 64 minutes, Albion extended their lead; Ben Tweed started the move with a ball to Fatlum Ibrahimi which was despatched across the field of play. Left to right, where Cassius-Gill was marauding – his low pass through the six-yard box fell to the unmarked Wilson who opened his account with a side foot into the corner.

Maltby then got one back when Newsham headed a corner into the far side of the net and it was game on again – a point would ease the visitor’s relegation position and they went for it.

Norman was close having rounded two defenders, but the shot deflected for a corner, whilst at the other end there were shouts for a penalty as Sam Kitchen interrupted Newsham as he raced onto a through ball in the Albion box but the referee was well placed. Substitute Luke Stewart skimmed the bar on 75 minutes.

However, six minutes from time, Tad were awarded a penalty when Cassius-Gill, on the end of Norman’s long-range pass was clattered. Norman sent Hood the wrong way to make the score 3-1.

Still the Miners came back and from a corner in the 89th minute of normal time the ball, having been headed onto the bar, fell to Currie who tapped it home.

The seventh consecutive unbeaten league game for Albion leaves them 12th in the league with two home games to come, starting on Saturday, June 6 (3pm) against Rossington Main.
