YORK City now know how the 2024/25 Vanarama National League will line up.

Following the conclusion of the National League, National League North and National League South play-offs over the weekend, the 24 clubs set to feature in the 2024/25 National League season have now been confirmed.

National League champions Chesterfield will be joined by Bromley, who bested Solihull Moors in a penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium on Sunday after an initial 2-2 draw.

The prolific Michael Cheek had put the Ravens ahead on the brink of half-time, before Joe Sbarra drew Solihull level on 48 minutes.

Cheek fired Bromley back in front from the penalty spot, before a superb long-range effort from Jamey Osborne saw Solihull take Andy Woodman’s side to extra-time and eventually penalties.

Some shootout heroics from Bromley shot-stopper Grant Smith allowed Bromley to progress into Sky Bet League Two for the first time in their history at the expense of the Moors, who had defeated York 1-0 on the final day.

Bromley’s promotion into the EFL came after a third-placed finish in the National League, despite the Ravens failing to beat City over their two fixtures in the 2023/24 season, which included a 2-2 draw at the LNER Community Stadium, before Adam Hinshelwood’s side sailed to a crucial 2-0 triumph in South-East London.

It also includes a winner’s medal for York loanee Will Davies, who joined Bromley in late March, after the striker made six appearances and one start under Woodman.

Chesterfield and Bromley will be replacing Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers in the EFL, with both sides suffering relegation back into the National League, having both previously featured in the division in the past seven years.

Forest Green ended the League Two campaign rooted to the foot of the table on 42 points, but were only beaten to 23rd position by Sutton through goal difference. The two sides were both five points adrift of Colchester United, now managed by former National League winner Danny Cowley.

Moving in an upward trajectory into the National League are the four sides being promoted from the regional divisions, replacing Oxford City, Dorking Wanderers, Kidderminster Harriers and Boreham Wood.

Tamworth celebrated promotion into the National League after clinching the National League North title in early April, gaining back-to-back promotions after finishing the campaign on 96 points, eight ahead of Scunthorpe United in second.

The Lambs will play at National League level for the first time in 17 years, with Jas Singh, Matt Curley and Jordan Cullinane-Liburd all being named in the National League North Team of the Season.

Joining Tamworth in gaining promotion from the National League North will be a team that York are all too familiar with, in the form of Boston United.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat to City in the National League North play-off final in the 2021/22 season, seeing the Minstermen promoted, the Pilgrims struggled to respond in the following campaign, finishing in a disappointing 15th position.

However, Boston have ended their play-off hoodoo at the expense of Brackley Town, coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at Brackley’s St James Park following goals from Keaton Ward and Jimmy Knowles, overturning Morgan Robert’s first-half opener.

It’s Boston’s first time in the fifth tier since 2008, when they suffered financial problems which forced a demotion to the third tier of the non-league pyramid.

In the National League South, Yeovil Town have matched their pre-season expectations of returning to the fifth tier at the first time of asking, following last season’s relegation.

Featuring former City left-back Alex Whittle, Yeovil led the way in the National League South for a large portion of the season before securing the title in mid-April.

The Glovers accumulated 95 points and ended their campaign nine ahead of Chelmsford City in second, suffering just one defeat in 23 league matches from September until February.

However, it was Bank Holiday Monday heartbreak for City boss Hinshelwood’s former side Worthing, who were pipped to promotion via the play-offs in a thrilling final against Braintree Town.

Braintree celebrated a 4-3 victory at Worthing’s Woodside Road, with strikes from Dominic Odusanya, Aaron Blair, Charlie Wakefield and Reggie Lambe helping the Iron to a return to the National League after five years in the South division.

Managed by the highly-rated Angelo Harrop, Braintree have never managed to defeat City in their four previous encounters at National League level, with York celebrating three victories against the Iron previously.
