FORMER York City loanee Will Smith is now available on a free transfer.

Smith, who spent the majority of the 2023/24 Vanarama National League season on loan with the Minstermen, will leave parent club Harrogate Town upon the expiry of his current contract.

The centre-halve made 27 appearances for York and became an integral part of the side under Neal Ardley and Adam Hinshelwood, with his initial one-month loan deal being extended until the end-of-the-season.

Smith suffered injury setbacks during his stint with City but still made an impressive amount of appearances, also adding one goal to his collection.

Harrogate have confirmed in their retained list that the defender will leave the club upon the expiry of his deal, alongside another ex-York stalwart.

Goalkeeper Pete Jameson, who famously starred in City's promotion from the Vanarama National League North in the 2021/22 season, has also been released by the Sky Bet League Two outfit.

Jameson made 93 appearances over a three year period with the Minstermen, 42 of which came in the 2021/22 campaign as York defeated Boston United 2-0 in the play-off final to end their stay in the regional divisions.

The shot-stopper earned a move into the EFL with Harrogate, but struggled to nail down a first-team position, linking back up with former boss John Askey at Hartlepool United during the previous season.
