YORK City have begun their Summer business with the acquisition of highly-rated goalkeeper Harrison Male. 

Male becomes Adam Hinshelwood's first signing ahead of the 2024/25 season, having previously played under the York boss in a spell with Worthing in a two-year period with the Rebels.

The 23-year-old joins City upon the expiry of his contract with relegated Vanarama National League side Dorking Wanderers, having made 45 appearances under Marc White.

Male initially began his career in the academy of Leeds United, spending over a decade throughout the youth ranks in West Yorkshire.

Shot-stopper Male endured a loan spell with fellow North Yorkshire outfit Tadcaster Albion during his career at Leeds, before signing permanently with Gateshead after leaving the Whites.

After just five starts with the Heed in their Vanarama National League North campaign, Male left the North-East based side in search of regular first-team football. 

He would find that with Dorking, playing every competitive minute besides the Wanderers' penultimate fixture away to Rochdale last campaign.

Male earned the Young Player of The Year, Supporters Player of The Year, and Players’ Player of The Year accolades at the end of the 2023/24 season, alongside Player of the Month awards in August, September and March.

The goalkeeper has also represented England a few times between U15-17s level.

Male also boasts a single England C appearance in 2023, featuring in a 1-0 win over Wales in March 2023 whilst at Vanarama National League South side Worthing.

Whilst under Hinshelwood, Male's two-year spell at Worthing between 2021-23 concluded with 105 appearances at the Rebels, and the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Male will challenge for the number one spot against George Sykes-Kenworthy, Maison Campbell, Sam Taylor and Rory Watson, who signed a new two-year extension earlier this month.
