YORK City will welcome Notts County during pre-season.

The Magpies will travel to the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday, July 27 (3pm).

The fixture is the Minstermen's fourth confirmed pre-season friendly, following home ties against Huddersfield Town (July 10, 7pm), Sheffield United (July 13, 3pm) and a trip to Spennymoor Town (August 3, 3pm).

The sides are no strangers to facing each other in pre-season, with York edging a 3-2 thriller in 2021, and Jim O’Brien scoring the only goal as County ran out 1-0 winners in North Yorkshire a year later.

A 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane secured City's Vanarama National League survival on the final day of the 2022/23 season in the sides' most recent meeting, with Ryan Whitley making a string of outstanding saves before Shaq Forde cancelled out former City striker Macaulay Langstaff's opener late on.

County went on to be promoted with victory against Chesterfield in the National League play-off final later that year, having pushed eventual champions Wrexham all the way during a thrilling title race.

They made a fantastic start to their return to the fourth tier - helped by record-breaker Langstaff - and by the 14th week of the season, were sitting in the top two places.

However, promotion-winning manager Luke Williams moved on to challenge himself at Sky Bet Championship side Swansea City in January, with Stuart Maynard, formerly of Wealdstone, taking over the top job.

Nonetheless, the Magpies remained play-off contenders before slipping to an eventual 14th placed finish.

Ticket sales, and the details attached with that, will be confirmed in due course.
