IT was a frustrating Bank Holiday for York CC as they saw both of their Hunters YPL North Premier Division fixtures called off without a ball being bowled.
The Clifton Park club picked up eight points from the cancellation of scheduled trips to Sessay and Woodhouse Grange, but that wasn’t enough to keep them in second position.
Fellow York club Clifton Alliance have leapfrogged them, by virtue of a stellar weekend that saw them pick up the maximum 20 points.
Their first victory came courtesy of a 147-run thrashing of Scarborough on Saturday.
Electing to bat, openers Bryn Llewellyn (51) and George Breheney (30) laid the foundations for their 238-8, with Sam Grant (46) and wicketkeeper Joe Thompson (42) also providing notable contributions down the order.
Number seven Matthew Turnbull (34) provided almost half of Scarborough’s reply, as Llewellyn (4-11) and Grant (3-19) were too hot to handle with the ball as their opponents were skittled for 87.
Their Bank Holiday Monday encounter at Easingwold however almost went down to the wire.
Sent in, the hosts started like a train, with skipper Tom Wilson (69) and Rob Taylor (73) combining in a 129-run stand for the opening wicket.
However, Sam Pearson (17) and Zack Wilson (11) were the only others to reach double figures in their 204-9 as Grant (5-49) and Llewellyn (3-46) took control with the ball.
Ed Wade’s unbeaten 60 was the highlight for Clifton in their reply, but though George Breheny (50), Llewellyn (35) and Grant (31 not out) found their groove at the crease, just six balls remained when they secured victory.

Table-toppers Castleford also picked up maximum points as they maintained a flawless start to the campaign.
That is despite making just 83 on their home turf after being sent in by Sherriff Hutton Bridge on Saturday.
Wicketkeeper Liam Hyde top-scored with a patient 27 from 66 balls in the middle order, but wickets continued to fall at the other end, with Dean Coote proving formidable with figures of 4-6 from his 6.1 overs.
Despite the loss of Adam Fisher four balls into their innings, wicketkeeper Alex Lilley (32) looked to have provided some stability, but the visitors could only muster 68 in response as the wickets were shared between Cas’ bowlers.
The West Yorkshire side made easier work of things at home to Sessay two days later, again sent in to bat by their opponents in a match reduced to 42 overs a side by the rain.
Captain Callum Rowe (62) got them off to a strong start before Hyde added a handy unbeaten 56 - including seven fours and a six - as they finished on 166-4.
Middle-order Diego Rosier was the only shining light in Sessay's disappointing batting display, his 66 contributing half of their eventual 121 all out as Monty Jackson (3-28) and David Wainright (3-29) shone with the ball.
It was a mixed weekend for Stamford Bridge, who could not back up Saturday’s three-wicket win at home to Hull Zingari.
Sent in, Hull were bowled out for 136, with top order Dave Watkin (38) and Joe Rawlinson (28) the top contributors as Dave Chaplain (5-21) got to work with the ball.
The York-based side initially struggled to mount much of a reply, but middle order Dominic Rhodes’ unbeaten 57 saw them across the line midway through the 46th over to pick up maximum points.
They were however firmly second best as Driffield made the trip over on Monday, the visitors needing a mere 14.3 overs to chase down their paltry 62.
