YORK Valkyrie have just 19 fit players to choose from for Sunday's Betfred Women's Super League clash with Warrington Wolves (12pm).

A mix of injury and illness has hampered the Valkyrie so far this season, with boss Lindsay Anfield grateful to have a month-break in the league calendar following this weekend's fixture.

Rhiannion Marshall is the only change to the Valkyrie's preliminary squad, with Sheffield Eagles youngsters Sian Judd and Agnes Wood and centre Carrie Roberts all dropping out.

"Nobody else is fit," Anfield explained to The Press of her decision to name a 19-player squad instead of the usual 21.

"We'd just be naming players who are injured, which is pointless."

The upcoming break is likely to provide enough time for Tara Jane Stanley and Georgie Hetherington to recover, but winger-turned-prop Kelsey Gentles and centre Tamzin Renouf face longer spells on the sidelines.

"Tara was really poorly, but at the same time she had a bit of a knee injury," Anfield continued.

"She should be back from that in the next couple of weeks - she'll be fit for England and for our next block of games.

"Tamzin, she's just had her elbow operated on. She'll be out for at least three months, but she will hopefully be back at the end of the season.

"Kelsey's knee, we're still waiting on her results from an MRI scan.

"But her knee doesn't look good because it was heavily strapped up anyway, so that probably rules Kelsey out for the foreseeable.

"And Georgie has got an AC joint problem, which again, after this break in games, should be alright.

"We are a bit depleted in what we've got, but it's good to have the young ones coming through and pushing into the first team."

York Valkyrie squad to face Warrington: Andrade, Bell, Brennan, Eastwood, Exley, Hendry, Kershaw, Komaitai, Lambert, Marshall, Owen, Partington, Rihari, Sanderson, Sharp, Stimpson, Taylor, Wilton, L.Wood.
