OLLY DYSON hopes to regain his confidence after admitting to maturing as a footballer with York City over the last 12 months.

Dyson endured a difficult season in the 2023/24 campaign, struggling for game time with York and experiencing a disrupted loan spell with Scarborough Athletic that came to an early end following an injury to the underside of his foot.

The midfielder managed just 23 appearances for the Minstermen despite a starring role the campaign prior, having been named as the Billy Fenton Clubman of the Year in the 2022/23 season.

Dyson now hopes to rediscover his form with the Minstermen, starting with a strong pre-season after admitting that last year’s off-season didn’t go as planned for the 24-year-old.

“I’ve grown a lot, I’ve been lucky to have had two promotions in my career and all within the first two years which was amazing,” Dyson told the Press.

“I’ve learned a lot and the following season I really enjoyed, I felt like I kicked a lot on from the season before.

“I felt I matured, last season was a tough one and it obviously didn’t go the way that I wanted it to.

“I’ve had a lot of things happen outside of football, so I think I need to give myself a bit more credit and really kick on next year, because I’m really in a better place than I was 12 months ago.

“You’re going to have off-seasons in your career and I’ve had three good ones and one bad one, so it’s not too bad.

“I’m all focused on next year now, we’ve got new owners and the club is going in the right direction now and everything has sort of been clicking now.”

“I’ll love to be a part of it, I want to improve myself and have a real good go next year and have a good season. We’ll see what happens.”

Dyson also hopes to regain his confidence after a tricky season, and believes that he can play a part despite City’s competitive budget increasing since his initial arrival in 2020.

Dyson told the Press: “I know I can do it because I’ve done it before, so it’s about giving myself a bit more confidence.

“I need to have a good off-season, a good pre-season and getting back to it.

“The team has improved with the budget we’ve got now, but there’s no reason why I can’t be a part of it.

“I will give it my all and see what happens.”
