FORMER York City manager John Askey is back in the managerial hotseat.
Askey, who was previously in charge of York for a one year period, helped guide City to their promotion from the Vanarama National League North in 2022.
The 59-year-old would be removed from his position in controversial circumstances, which included being made collect his own P45 from the printer by former majority owner Glen Henderson.
Askey has since gone on to endure a spell with Hartlepool United, but was unable to turn around the North East sides fortunes after their relegation back into the Vanarama National League.
Now back in football, Askey has made the surprise move into the Vanarama National League South; linking up with Truro City.
Askey replaces previous manager Paul Wooton, who recently made the switch to fellow National League South outfit Torquay United after exiting administration.
Truro were promoted into the National League South in 2022 and ended their debut season at the sixth tier in a comfortable 16th position, with York centre-halve Sam Sanders playing a regular role in the team.
This was despite problems arising with Truro’s Treyew Road Stadium, which forced the Tinners into playing their football in Gloucester.
But with a new stadium, badge and nickname in the works, Askey is excited to be taking on a new project in the South of England: “It is a new start for the club coming to a new ground.
"It is exciting times, although it will be a challenge, but I am looking forward to the project ahead.
“We are hoping that everyone in Cornwall can get behind us and we can be successful. That is what it is all about, turning this club into a successful one.
“[Truro] have done well over the past couple of years but we want to push on now and keep improving.
“We want conviction and as long the supporters see the players having a go for them, that is all we can expect.
“If you do that as a player, along with being strong, organised and fit, there is no reason why we can’t compete.
“It will be tough, initially, but we have a lovely ground and the pitch will be fantastic to play on so hopefully we can play some good football and entertain the supporters, by winning games.”
Askey will be assisted by Stewart Yetton, who will remain with club as assistant manager.
