TYLER CORDNER is set to leave York City on loan, confirmed by co-chairman Matt Uggla

Speaking to the York Hospital Ball Podcast, Uggla has revealed Cordner is set for an imminent departure after a single season with the football club, with a loan move lined up for the centre-halve.

The co-chair is also expecting a make or break campaign for Callum Harriott, who he labelled as a new signing after an injury-struck 2023/24 season, whilst detailing that the club are set to let a number of players leave.

“Tyler is an interesting one. Tyler will be leaving in the next couple of days to go out on loan," Uggla confirmed to the York Hospital Ball podcast.

“The view on Tyler is that he is a top guy, I really like him, but reliability, if you look at this talent level then he is probably far too good for this level. He should be playing much higher.

“For whatever reason it hasn’t worked out. For us we don’t want to cut ties completely because he is still a fantastic player.

“He has to go out and prove it for a season that he can do it for a season. If you look at the season he had before he came to us at Aldershot, he was absolutely fantastic and he had I think 12 goals, England C captain and on paper it really should have worked out. For a variety of different reasons, he hasn’t really kicked on here.

“We’ll see how he does this year and reassess it.

“There’s two very different stories there. Unfortunately for Callum he has been injured but he has had a very good career if you look back on it.

“The consensus amongst Mikey [Morton, former manager] and then Adam [Hinshelwood, manager] is that if you can get him fit and firing, he is probably the best winger in this whole league. It’s just a big if of - can he?

“For Cal, he is fit now and ready to go, but can we keep him fit, for him it’s a make or break season for him.

“He’s got a year left on his deal with us and I’m very fond of him, so I’d love to see him become the player that I know he can be and that the manager knows he can be.

“He would be like a brand new signing, it’s just a question of can he keep himself fit."

Uggla also confirmed that in order for new faces to join the club, that players will also have to leave, with 33 players contracted to the first-team as of right now. 

Uggla told the York Hospital Ball Podcast: “I think you will get quite a few outgoings from now to when the season starts. There are a few that are pretty imminent.

"You’ll see how that plays out because football is funny and has a way of moving the goal posts at the last minute, so we’ll see.

“On incomings, there’s one that’s already agreed to come in [Alex Hunt] then there are probably two, maybe three, depending on how many we can get out so they can come in, but there’s only one who is certain at this time."

Uggla would go on to discuss the recent addition of striker Ollie Pearce, who previously worked with Hinshelwood and netted an incredible 43 goals in 46 matches for Worthing last season, detailing what he expects from the new City attacker.

Uggla enthused: “I’m very excited to have Ollie here. If you watch him over the last few years he has been fantastic.

“The jump from that league to this league is a big one, so I wouldn’t put the pressure on him to say that he’s going to score 46 goals in 46 games next year in the National League. I hope he does, that would be fantastic!

“You’ve got Dipo [Akinyemi] up there, you’ve got him up there, it’s a really exciting attack and to go back to throwing whatever they want at them, no, that was what we did last year.

“It’s structuring things properly so that if he is successful then he is rewarded, but if it doesn’t quite work out then it’s not going to destroy the club.”
