YORK City could be set for a cash boost with a homegrown talent lined up for a move to an Italian giant.
Ben Godfrey, who made his senior debut for York in 2014, is reportedly having a medical with Serie A side Atalanta ahead of a proposed £10 million move from Premier League outfit Everton.
Should the move go ahead, the Press understands that City would receive approximately £200,000, due to a clause within his contract.
Godfrey began his career within the Minstermen's academy and captained the York & District under-13's side to a first-ever English School's FA International trophy in May 2011.
The defender earned his first-team debut for York in a 1-0 victory over Yeovil Town aged just 17, having previously captained the club's under-18's side.
His first goal in City colours came in stoppage-time during a 2-1 defeat to Plymouth Argyle, with his impact beginning to earn the attention of club's higher up the footballing pyramid.
Godfrey would be allowed to move on to then-Premier League side Norwich City for an undisclosed fee, with a loan spell to Shrewsbury Town seeing the centre-back earn valuable first-team minutes.
After breaking into the Canaries' side and making 66 appearances, Godfrey would earn a move to Premier League outfit Everton, where he has since made 82 league appearances after initially joining the Toffees in 2020.
Godfrey celebrated winning the club's Young Player of the Season accolade during his first year at the club, even earning an international call-up to the England first-team, making two appearances in 2021.
However, with just one year remaining on his Everton contract and game time limited under manager Sean Dyche, Godfrey has received attention from all over Europe, with the likes of Lyon, Inter Milan and Leeds United all showing reported interest.
It looks as if Atalanta have won the race for Godfrey's signature, with a reported £10 million deal agreed between Europa League winners and Everton.
Godfrey is now reportedly undergoing a medical with Atalanta, with York potentially set to earn a fee for their help in the 26-year-old's development.
