YORK City are in talks to bring in a new signing ahead of their pre-season opener with Sheffield United.
Adam Hinshelwood has confirmed to the Press that there will be minimal additions to York after bringing in seven new signings early into the off-season, with the City manager pleased with the current shape of his squad.
But with Hinshelwood keen to improve at left-back, the Minstermen hope to add to their ranks, also providing an update on the fitness of the long-term absentees ahead of the friendly with Sheffield United tomorrow afternoon at the LNER Community Stadium (12.30pm).
“I’m really happy, I think we’ve done our work early," Hinshelwood told the Press.
"There’s a few players that have been working hard and I’m really excited to see them in with the current squad of players we’ve got.
"I think that there will be minimal coming in now, but there will still be players coming into the building, that’s for sure.
"Whether if we can get them in time for tomorrow’s game or not, it will be a bit close maybe.
"I’m really happy with where we are at this stage of the season with our current squad.
“Maybe a left-back is one area [to improve on]. We’ve got Crookesy [Adam Crookes] and Joe Felix that can play there, Leon Gibson-Booth as a young defender that can play there as well.

"We’ve got Paddy [McLaughlin] who can play there as well, but it might be an area that we look to bring in moving forward.
"Then it’s just tidying up in all areas, I think that there is good competition now in lots of areas of the pitch.
"There will be minimal additions now, I would suggest from now until the start of the season at Southend away."
Hinshelwood also confirmed that there are players in discussion with leaving York, but that no agreement would be reached until after the weekend.
“There’s a couple that are in discussions [to leave], but we’re not sure yet.
"It will happen potentially on Monday, at the earliest, there are a couple of discussions happening at the moment. I don’t think that any of them are close enough to happen over the weekend."
Callum Harriott and Levi Andoh won't be involved in City's pre-season opener, with the duo continuing to recover from long-term injuries.
Young striker Alex Hernandez, who is set to train with the first-team, missed the majority of the 2023/24 season through injury, but is nearing a return to training after managing to lace his boots back up in pre-season.
“It’s been hard, they’ve got a good amount of minutes in their legs, they’ve had to do the hard graft and the running.
"I think, like myself, the players are ready to get back to some match time, to get some game time into their legs. We’re all looking forward to getting back out on the pitch.
“We’ve picked up a couple of niggles, which you expect with the volume of intensity, over the last couple of weeks. They’ve been calves and groins, which you kind of expect.
"Everyone is in a good place, the long-term injuries in Callum Harriott and Levi [Andoh] are progressing well.
"Alex Hernandez got his boots on over the last couple of days. I expect they will be a couple of weeks away, but they are progressing nicely as well. I’m really pleased with where everybody is at.
“There will be a couple potentially that might not be involved, we’re not going to go into detail on who they will be. There will be a couple that won’t be featuring in the game."
