ADAM HINSHELWOOD detailed what he hopes to see from tomorrow's York City pre-season opener against Sheffield United at the LNER Community Stadium (12.30pm).
York will welcome Sky Bet Championship outfit Sheffield United to North Yorkshire for their first match of pre-season, with the Blades looking to adapt to life back in the second tier after suffering relegation from the Premier League.
Hinshelwood is eager to test himself against a manager of the calibre of Chris Wilder, but has detailed set expectations of his City side.
“I’m wanting to see elements of what we have worked on in training, elements of our identity,” Hinshelwood told the Press.
“There are obviously going to be long spells without the ball when playing against such a good side, they have just come down from the Premier League so there are no mugs that we are playing against.
“We’ll definitely respect them, at the same time we want a clean bill of health at the end of it and for everyone to come through injury-free with some good minutes into their legs.
“If we can have that with a few passages of how we want to play, then that will be a lovely start to pre-season.
“Definitely [looking forward to it], I’m learning and am wanting to learn all of the time.
“What better way than to have a really experienced manager alongside me [Wilder], it’s something that I am personally looking forward to and having a good chat with Chris before and after the game.
“Seeing and taking in what I can, learning loads and that’s what I want to keep on doing. It’s what we ask of the players, to keep on improving and learning. I’m no different.”
Saturday’s match also sees the Minstermen return to the LNER Community Stadium for the first time in 91 days, with Hinshelwood keen to welcome back supporters for their first friendly.
Hinshelwood enthused: “It feels like a long time coming, we’re delighted to be back in front of our home fans, it’s a great game for them to come and watch.
“To see some of the new faces on show, we want to entertain them and put on a good display, we want them to come back the following week.
“We’ve got a good run of home fixtures for them to look forward to and we want them to enjoy it enough to come back next week, hopefully to also entice one or two of their mates to come as well to keep on boosting the crowd in the build-up of back-to-back home games, after we visit Southend.”
