JOE FELIX has promised to do his best every time he pulls on the York City shirt.
The new right-back joined York from Adam Hinshelwood’s former club Worthing in May, being one of four players to sign on the same day, having registered 13 assists and three goals from 44 games, all whilst playing in defence.
With City beginning their pre-season campaign at the LNER Community Stadium earlier today, Felix showed his talent from right-back, despite the Minstermen eventually falling to a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United.
Felix enjoyed the occasion of taking on a Sky Bet Championship team, and admitted that it was a good feeling to play in front of the home supporters at the LNER Community Stadium.
“I’m really happy to get some minutes, that’s what it’s about, trying to get as many minutes as you can whilst doing all of the right things,” Felix told the Press.
“The gaffer was instructing us with what to do and it was really good.
“I like to get forward, my game is getting forward whilst contributing with goals and assists.
“I like to put myself into positions that the opposition will find difficult, that’s what we’re trying to get into, it’s a working process but that’s what we’re trying to do.
“It was unreal [playing at home], it was nice. Every tackle that I made they were cheering us on, it gave us that extra push.
“It was really nice, I can’t wait to keep showing the fans what I am capable of doing, and to keep doing my best in every game for them.
“To be fair they were a good side, a very strong side.
“It was quite tough, you could see why they are there through the good players that they have.
“For us, we want the challenge of playing against the best and it was a really good test for us.
“I thought we handled it well, I’m really happy with everyone that played today.”
Felix has made the move up from the South Coast alongside Ollie Pearce, Ricky Aguiar and Hinshelwood, after feeling that the time was right to progress to a higher division.
The 23-year-old also believes that his existing relationships with both Pearce and Aguiar could prove crucial, in both settling in and performing on the pitch.
Felix admitted: “It was quite a distance, but I just felt like this was the time for me to try and step up and challenge myself in a different league and progress.
“With the gaffer, knowing how he understands me and with the way he wants to play, it put two and two together and made it easier for me to come.
“I’m really looking forward to doing what I can do, as well as showing everyone why I am here.
“I’ve still got a long way to go, so I’m just grateful to be here.
“We’ve got a good partnership from last season and they are good players as well, really good players.
“It’s nice to have them here knowing that I was with them last season, it makes me really happy to have familiar faces with us from last season.
“It makes it easier to come into a team, they’re really good guys, really good players and I’m looking forward to playing with everyone and gelling even more.”
