THE son of a former York City footballer has completed a permanent move to the Premier League.

Jacob Greaves, son of former York defender Mark, has made the switch from Hull City to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town for a reported £15 million.

Mark Greaves, an ex-Hull stalwart himself, featured for the Minstermen in the 2008/09 season, as City ended their campaign in 17th position in the Conference Premier.

The now-49-year-old made 46 appearances in all competitions, finding the back of the net on four occasions.

In that same season, York reached the Isuzu FA Trophy final but fell to a 2-0 defeat at Wembley Stadium, whilst under the management of Colin Walker and Martin Foyle.

His son Jacob has followed in the footsteps of his father, who made 177 appearances for Hull, linking up with the Tigers’ academy in 2008.

The 23-year-old underwent a loan spell with Cheltenham Town before breaking into the Hull first team in 2020.

A 16-year stint, which began aged eight in the City academy, ended in 2024 after 172 appearances with the East Yorkshire side.

Following Ipswich’s back-to-back promotions from Sky Bet League One to the Premier League, the Tractor Boys have began building their squad for their maiden season back in the top flight.

Greaves has become Ipswich’s second signing of the Summer, after being named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season and collecting Hull’s Player of the Season accolade.

Speaking on his move, Greaves told TownTV: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a massive club.

“As soon as I heard there was a bit of interest I spoke to the people around me and they were all extra keen to try and get this move over the line.

“Now it’s done, I’m very happy.

“I’ve spoken to Kieran [McKenna, Ipswich manager] quite a few times over this last month, and every conversation I’ve had with him has been positive.”
