ADAM Hinshelwood believes Darlington provided a “great test” for York City last night - admitting it was a match that had a bit of everything.

The sides played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Blackwell Meadows, with the Minstermen able to hold out despite injuries forcing them to play the final 10 minutes with 10 men.

Callum Howe, Billy Chadwick and Ollie Pearce all wasted chances before trialist Max McMillan opened the scoring in the 20th minute, but Will Hatfield struck back on the stroke of half time, his free-kick coming back off the underside of the crossbar and into Harrison Male before rolling into the back of the net.

Former City striker Cedric Main fired Darlington in front from the penalty spot after being tripped by McMillan, but though substitutes Dipo Akinyemi and Tyrese Sinclair added their names to the scoresheet, Main’s second successful spot-kick ensured the spoils were shared.

Speaking to BBC Radio York, Hinshelwood laughed: “It had a bit of everything!”

“All in all, it was quite an entertaining game for a preseason game I thought.

“The first half, we played some unbelievable stuff in those first 25 or 30 minutes and got in some great areas. We probably didn’t make the most of those areas when we got into them, but there was some really, really good play.

“And then all the changes I had planned and to keep all the players I wanted to keep on were the ones that had to come off, and that disrupted everything a little bit. But fair play to the lads, we weathered a bit of a late storm there.

“It was a great tempo and a great test for us in pre-season to be honest."
