OLLY Dyson has joined Spennymoor Town in a short-term loan from York City.

The midfielder will link up with the Vanarama National League North side in a loan deal until January 1.

Despite winning City’s Billy Fenton Clubman of the Year in 2022-23, last season proved to be a turbulent one for Dyson.

He earned the Man of the Match in home draws against both Solihull Moors and Bromley during the early part of the campaign, going on to feature 25 times as the Minstermen narrowly avoided relegation from the Vanarama National League.

But having struggled for game time, he was loaned to Scarborough Athletic in January, where he scored a long-range stunner in a 2-2 draw at home to Warrington, before seeing his season cut narrowly short by an injury to the underside of his foot.

During the off-season, the club centurion told The Press of his intentions to break back into Adam Hinshelwood’s first-team, feeling as though he had matured as a player over the last 12 months.

“I’m all focused on next year now, we’ve got new owners and the club is going in the right direction and everything has been clicking,” said the former England C international.

“I’d love to be a part of it, I want to improve myself and have a real good go next year and have a good season. We’ll see what happens.

“The team has improved with the budget we’ve got now, but there’s no reason why I can’t be a part of it.

“I will give it my all and see what happens.”

Spennymoor finished just one point outside the National League North play-offs last season, having won 22 and drawn eight of their 46 league fixtures.

And manager Graeme Lee is delighted to have Dyson on board for the first half of his side’s campaign.

He told the club website: “Olly is a great addition for us, we’re really pleased to get him in.

“He brings some really good experience in this league and from the one above, so we’re excited to have him on board.

“Olly has great quality, has bundles of energy and can play in a few different positions so his arrival gives us extra flexibility and strengthens our hand.

“I’d like to thank York for their help in getting the deal done and we look forward to welcoming him into the squad.”

The 24-year-old could make his Spennymoor debut in tomorrow’s pre-season friendly against Ashington.
