YORK City are set to sign defender Cameron John over the coming days after an impressive pre-season trial.
The 24-year-old is currently a free agent after his departure from Rochdale, where he made 55 appearances during his two seasons at the club.
He has turned out at left-back and centre-back for the Minstermen during pre-season games against Grimsby and Darlington, but missed Saturday’s thrilling fightback against Notts County.
Whilst he was not named in the matchday squad against the Magpies, City boss Adam Hinshelwood confirmed he was not playing elsewhere and that the club were in talks for his signature.
“I’m hoping that something can be done potentially as early as Monday or Tuesday next week,” he revealed.
“Let’s hope that we can get it agreed and get him in because we’re a bit light in that position, although Joe [Felix] was excellent there today, and Darragh [O’Connor] and Callum [Howe] did well.
“But I believe the talks have gone well and we’re hoping that something can be done very soon.”

With injuries to Adam Crookes and Levi Andoh, and Thierry Latty-Fairweather not a part of the club's plans for the season, City are a little light at left-back, despite Joe Felix impressing in the role on Saturday.
And Hinshelwood admits that is an area in which he is focusing his recruitment as the days tick down to their Vanarama National League opener at Southend on August 10.
"I think in all the other areas of the pitch we've got good options," he explained.
"There's numerous options for each position - maybe not just quite at left-back.
"Joe can play there, Crookesy can play there and Paddy [McLaughlin] as well, so we have got options.
"But naturally, in a natural position, I think we'd like one more if possible."
