YORK City have announced the arrival of defender Cameron John, following a successful trial period.

John, 24, featured predominantly at left-back but can also operate in a central position, having impressed for the Minstermen during pre-season.

The trialist featured in York's 2-1 victory over Grimsby Town, the 3-3 draw at Darlington and the 2-2 stalemate with Notts County.

The 24-year-old rejected a contract renewal with fellow Vanarama National League side Rochdale upon the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, after initially joining the Dale in 2022.

He began his career at Southend United before making the switch to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2015, beginning his career in professional football

Throughout a five year stint with Wolves, John featured primarily for the under-18's and under-23's, also undergoing a season-long loan spell with Yorkshire side Doncaster Rovers.

John would go on to make 21 appearances for the Dons in the 2019/20 season, before penning a two-year contract at the Eco-Power Stadium.

The left-back accumulated 66 outings across two spells with Doncaster, before leaving the club once his contract expired.

Rochdale brought in the towering defender, where he would go on to make 55 appearances across two seasons.

John provides valuable experience and cover at left-back, a position that York are admittedly light in, with Adam Crookes, Thierry Latty-Fairweather, Leon Gibson-Booth and Paddy McLaughlin all potential other options.
