ADAM HINSHELWOOD admitted his disappointment after York City battled to a 3-3 draw with Spennymoor Town in their final match of pre-season.
York’s pre-season campaign wrapped up with something of a goal fest in Durham, as Spennymoor twice came from behind to avoid defeat against City.
Marvin Armstrong had opened the scoring after latching onto Joe Felix’s cross, coolly tucking home at the back post.
The Minstermen doubled their advantage after a nice passing move allowed Felix to register a second assist, identifying Lenell John-Lewis in the area, who powered his header home.
Spennymoor halved the deficit from 12-yards out, as Glen Taylor hammered home from the spot, despite Harrison Male managing a hand onto the penalty strike.
Taylor drew the hosts level after meeting a cross into the York box, before opening up his body and arrowing a strike past Male.
City reinstated their advantage in the second-half as substitute Billy Chadwick headed home from a deep free-kick, before Taylor completed his hat-trick, tucking away another penalty which had been awarded in controversial circumstances.
Hinshelwood was disappointed as his side managed an impressive attacking performance against Spennymoor, but struggled to keep Town out in a competitive end to pre-season.
“I thought that in the first-half, we played some excellent stuff,” Hinshelwood told the club media team.
“I’m a bit disappointed that the lads didn’t make it 3-0, that would’ve been a good reflection of large parts of the first-half.

“It was a bit of a controversial decision to give a penalty and a mistake when we’re jumping out and leaving ourselves a bit open to come in at 2-2.
“I thought that in large parts of the first-half, we played some really good stuff, we moved them around really well.
“In the second-half, the changes probably didn’t find the same sort of impetus as we did in the first-half, but whenever we sort of got ahead at 3-2, there was a penalty to make it 3-3.
“Some funny decisions with some more to come from us, the players that haven’t had many minutes, it was important that they got minutes today and came through it.
“You get that sometimes, sometimes you want an impact from all the subs coming on but sometimes they find it hard to find their feet a little bit.
“They pressed us slightly different in the second-half, which did make it slightly difficult.
“The decisions on the ball were a little bit poor at times, and there were too many passes at times that were unopposed.
“We’re hoping to eradicate all that this week, to be ready to go for next week.”
Despite a third draw of pre-season from seven matches, Hinshelwood firmly believes that there is potential within the City team to produce positive performances in the Vanarama National League campaign.
Hinshelwood is confident that he has identified the issues within his York squad, and is pleased that his side have witnessed a ‘kick up the backside’ prior to the beginning of the league season.
The Minstermen boss continued: “The potential is definitely there, but when you go away and score three goals, you think you can go away with a win.
“There are things to look at, we can’t do much about the decisions that the referee made there, but we’ve got to be more resolute.
“The amount of the ball we had, to concede two goals in the first-half and the third one, again another penalty.
“We’re disappointed to score three goals away [from home] and to also concede three, it’s disappointing on our behalf.
“Sometimes it’s good to get that just before the season starts, and to give us a kick up the backside that we’re perhaps not finished, it’s something to work on, lots to improve on, it’s a bit of a humbling and we take that into next week.”
