ADAM HINSHELWOOD expects a clash of styles when York City welcome Rochdale this evening to the LNER Community Stadium (7.45pm).

Both sides have begun the Vanarama National League in impressive style, both taking four points from their opening two matches.

Hinshelwood and Rochdale manager Jim McNulty are both known for their possession-style approaches in the fifth tier, with the York manager keen to show the visitors respect on their trip to North Yorkshire.

“Jim likes to dominate possession and has got a real style that they like to adapt,” Hinshelwood detailed.

“It will completely contrast in terms of styles. It’s one that we have got to adapt to and we’ve got to implement our game plan.

“We’re the home side and we want to go and show what we are all about as well.

“It’s got all the makings for a really good game. It’s bound to be a drab nil-nil after I’ve said that.

“We’re hoping that both teams, more so ourselves, can really stamp our authority on the game and show what we’re about.

“We rely on ourselves and what we can do.

“We’ll ask them if there is anything, but we’re not reliant on them giving us any information.

“We deal with the information ourselves, we do the homework ourselves, but they might come up with one or two little things like they have today in training.

“It could be if it is a corner that they like to work or a set-piece they like to work, but other than that the work is done by ourselves.

“We’re not reliant on players, we want them to focus on their job and doing it out on the pitch ultimately.”

The fixture against Rochdale also sees City stars Tyrese Sinclair and Cameron John return to their former club, after making the switch to North Yorkshire in the summer.

Hinshelwood admitted that he would ask for snippets of advice from the duo on anything that he might not be aware of, but said that he and his coaching staff would focus primarily on their own homework.

Hinshelwood continued: “We rely on ourselves and what we can do, we’ll ask them if there is anything, but we’re not reliant on them giving us any information.

“We have full belief in what we’re doing and how we play,” said Hinshelwood.

“We’ve got a lot of respect for Jim and his team and how they play.

“We won’t go too much into it, we’ll give the lads little snippets and focus on what we can do and what we can bring to the game.”

The York boss also hopes that one day the club will find fixtures with larger crowds, as expected at Rochdale, to become the norm.

Hinshelwood admitted that he is looking forward to the contest and the atmosphere that it generates, and that he hopes that his players will play their part in what should be an exciting clash between two former members of the English Football League, that bring in some of the larger crowds in the National League.

“They are the games that we want to become the norm at this club.

“We want the players to relish them and look forward to them.

“We’re focusing on what we can do and what we can bring to the game, whilst at the same time having respect for the opposition.

“We’ll thoroughly look forward to it.

As a manager these are the games that you want to be involved in.

“I’m really looking forward to it myself, and I’m sure that the players will be as well.”
