YORK City Ladies began their FA Women's National League division one season with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Chorley Women.
Goals from Ella Ritchie and a brace from Molly Wood saw the Minsterbelles' impressive pre-season undone on the opening day of the season, with Chris Holloway's side bottom of the table after week one.
The York boss admitted that he was 'really disappointed', and felt that his side were underwhelming in the first-half.
"I'm really disappointed, last week and Friday we were really looking forward to it," Holloway told club media.
"We were confident, but obviously we were way off it in the first-half.
"We had a few words at half-time and although we were better in patches in the second-half, I can't really argue with the result.
"I was actually pleased with the first five or so minutes, but we just took too many touches in the key areas and the details that we spoke about just wasn't there.
"They get the first goal, then the second quite quickly after.
"They've got some quality in ther e and are well organised, we said at half-time that we've still got to believe, if we get one then we're still in it."
After an even start to the contest at the York Sport Arena, the visitors worked the ball well before Wood's long-ranged effort cleared the bar.
Chorley's Millie Fitzpatrick then attempted an audacious effort that was smothered by Becky Sidwell, before the Magpies took the lead.
Ritchie received possession in the area and produced a composed finish into the top corner.
Just under 15 minutes later, Chorley had their second as Wood produced an impressive strike past Sidwell.
York managed to create one final opportunity before the half-time whistle, as Sophie Tinson controlled the ball excellently before curling a strike narrowly over the crossbar.
Chorley started the second 45 competitively with Wood having back-to-back opportunities, her first skidding wide before rattling the woodwork just one minute later.
Sidwell was then forced into a superb save, keeping out Ritchie, before Tinson saw another strike palmed away by visiting goalkeeper Mollie Finch.
With one minute remaining of the second-half, Chorley wrapped up a perfect start to the season for them, as a well-worked team goal was capped off by Wood.
The Minsterbelles are back in action on Sunday, August 25 when visiting Cheadle Town Stingers (3pm).
