YORK City midfielder Dan Batty has been named in the Non-League Paper Team of the Week after an impressive start to the Vanarama National League season.

Batty has performed as a standout player in the opening two matches of the season, producing in a deeper midfield role that has seen the 26-year-old flourish under Adam Hinshelwood.

In the opening day 1-1 draw at Southend United, Batty completed 13 final-third passes, the second highest in the National League only behind Woking’s Cian Harries.

But his performance against Tamworth, where he was also awarded the Press’ Man-of-the-Match accolade, he completed more passes than the entirety of the Lambs’ away side.

His display earned him a place in the Non-League Paper Team of the Week, with Hinshelwood also hugely impressed by the performance of his midfield general.

Hinshelwood told the Press: “Dan, now having a full pre-season under his belt, looks so much fitter.

“He’s been working hard on his game and I think that we have a lot more competition on the pitch now, with Ricky [Aguiar], with Hunty [Alex Hunt] and Marv [Marvin Armstrong], Billy Chadwick can play central as well, Paddy as well who can play in the centre of the park.

“I think that it’s really brought Dan’s game on, we’ve found him a role where he drops in between the two centre-halves, gets on the ball and dictates the game from there.

“I think we’ve found him a role that really suits him and I’m delighted for him, he’s worked hard, he’s got a good relationship with Cal [Callum Howe] and Ryan [Fallowfield], they travel in together and when you see them on the pitch they’re all together as well.

“It’s looking good, looking solid and I think there’s even more to come from Batts as well.

“He’s made a great start to the season and the key now is to keep consistency in his game.”
