EX-York City loanee Nick Pope has been named in Lee Carsley's first England squad.
After a lengthy spell on the treatment table through a dislocated shoulder, Pope was forced to watch from the stands for three months as Newcastle United pushed for Europe in the Premier League.
Pope made his comeback in the Toon's final match of their Premier League season in a 4-2 victory over Brentford, starting Newcastle's opening two clashes of the 2024/25 campaign too.
The shot-stopper's return from injury was too soon for a call-up to Gareth Southgate's EURO 2024 Three Lions squad, who reached the final and lost out to Spain, before the boss made the decision to step down from his role as manager of the international team.
Carsley has stepped into the role on a temporary basis whilst the FA conduct their search for a permanent hire, and will take charge of England's Nations League matches against Ireland on Saturday, September 7, and Finland on Tuesday, September 10.
Included in the former under-21's boss squad is Pope, formerly of York.
Pope initially joined the Minstermen in November 2013 on a one-month loan in League Two, but was recalled by parent club Charlton Athletic after just two matches.
In mid-January, Pope returned to City on a deal until the end of the season under the tutelage of Nigel Worthington, keeping 16 clean sheets in 24 total matches.
He was also part of the York squad that worked their way into the play-offs, only to fall short against Fleetwood Town in the semi-finals.
Pope would go on to join Burnley and become their number one for six years, making over 150 appearances, before switching for Newcastle.
The shot-stopper will look to cement a spot under Carsley with competition from Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone.
