YORK City will focus on improving on Monday’s 2-0 defeat to Boston United when travelling to Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow (3pm).
Adam Hinshelwood’s side will visit the Chigwell Construction Stadium for their sixth match of the Vanarama National League season, looking to respond to a first defeat of the campaign on Bank Holiday Monday.
Hinshelwood is eager to see improvements in his side’s performance against a Dagenham side he remains wary of, after embarking on a personal mission to scout Saturday's opponents when visiting the Daggers last week.
The boss joked: “It’s a nice trip again, we’re getting them all out of the way early and I’m sure that our fans will be sick and tired of getting on the train down to Kings Cross by now!
“Their support again at Sutton was unbelievable and I’m sure that it will be no different at Dagenham.
“We were down in London last Friday so I managed to get a tube and a train to go and watch Dagenham, because they played on a Friday night and it was a real tight affair.
“They are a good side with lots of experience at this level, and like any team at this level, anyone can beat anyone on their day.
“If you get a little stroke of luck or a decision go your way, that’s how tight the games are and I think that we proved that in our first five games.
“We’ve come on the right side of a couple of good decisions and good results, but you’ve got to be on it.
“This is one of them, if we’re not at our full percentage or if we have a few players not quite on song, then it’s going to be a tough afternoon. Dagenham will be no different.
“They will be looking to above us in the points tally if they win and we will be looking to extend our points tally as well.
“It will all play itself out, when you get to about 10 games then there is a bit more of a clear understanding of what the team might look like.
“For ourselves, we’ll focus on that and want to improve on our performance from Monday, it wasn’t a disastrous performance but there is still tons to work on.”
Hinshelwood has previous experience of tackling the Daggers in his playing career, and spoke on the atmosphere faced when crossing that white line.
“I had a really tough game, they are really competitive and the fans demand that their team are at it for every minute of every game.
“You’ve definitely got to be at it when you go there, their pitch is quite nice and they have a nice stand behind the goal.
“I have some good memories of going down there and some really tough games as well.
“We’ve definitely got to be mentally up for it because their fans demand so much of their team.”
