YORK City youngsters Bill Marshall and Leon Gibson-Booth have joined Ossett United on youth loans.

Marshall first appeared amongst the York first-team on the final day of the 2023/24 season, travelling down with the squad for their 1-0 defeat to Solihull Moors.

The 17-year-old was not involved in the matchday squad, but gained valuable experience on what a game day would be like for a member of the first-team.

Hinshelwood had stated previously that he had been impressed by Gibson-Booth whilst attending academy matches, with both youngsters joining in first-team training.

The duo featured for the Minstermen across pre-season in friendlies, with Hinshelwood keen to build a pathway from the academy to the first-team.

Both Marshall and Gibson-Booth also started in York’s under-18’s National League Alliance Cup final defeat against Maidstone United at England’s illustrious training ground, St. James Park in early May.

Hinshelwood had previously told the Press that he was open to allowing the youngsters the opportunity to go and gain valuable minutes in a first-team set-up elsewhere, with his current squad currently not having room on a matchday.

Marshall and Gibson-Booth have both joined Ossett in the Northern Premier League East Division, where they will play under former Manchester City academy coach Dave Wild.

Ossett currently find themselves in a 16th position out of 22 teams on five points, having won just one match from their opening six games.

The young City duo were part of four signings announced on Saturday, alongside Aleks Petrovic and Connor Brady, who all featured at the weekend.

It was Ossett’s first win of the campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Consett AFC, with goals from Harry Lynn and Eddie Church.
