YORK Valkyrie star Tara Jane Stanley will miss the remainder of the Betfred Women's Super League season with an ACL injury.

The full-back limped off during the closing stages of Sunday's statement 32-6 victory at Leeds Rhinos after having kicked six of her seven attempts on goal at Headingley.

Stanley, widely recognised as one oft the Women's Super League's standout players, has already spent time sidelined with a knee issue during what has been a turbulent season for Lindsay Anfield's side.

After initially sustaining an injury at Barrow at the end of April, she was risked against Leeds Rhinos a fortnight later but did not play again until the beginning of July.

That ruled the former Woman of Steel out of York's Betfred Women's Challenge Cup semi-final against St Helens, with Georgie Hetherington turning out at full-back in her place.

Anfield had been hopeful that Stanley would be able to feature in the Valkyrie's upcoming play-off campaign but this afternoon the club confirmed the devastating news.

A post on social media read: "Best wishes to Valkyrie full-back Tara-Jane Stanley from everyone at the club, who is out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury last Sunday against Leeds Rhinos.

"We wish her all the best with recovery."
